LTL 002: What To Do When Your New Boss Is 20 Years Younger Than You

Most of us, at some point in our career, will wind up reporting to someone who is younger than we are. Have you ever had a boss who is part of another generation?

Six steps to take when reporting to a younger manager:

#1 Stop trying to get him to see it your way
#2 DO NOT complain to others passing along your stereotypes
#3 Remember that she’s the boss – respect the position
#4 He needs you, so be the kind of team member that anyone would want on their team
#5 Adjust your perspective
#6 Evaluate your future and discuss it with her

What a fantastic opportunity! If you approach this with an expectation of getting to experience firsthand how someone else sees things, you will learn more than this podcast could ever hope to convey. Remember, every circumstance is an opportunity to learn. People are watching to see how you respond. It’s not cliche – leadership is influence and others need to see how a professional responds to difficult situations.

Now, go and lead like someone you would want to follow!
