I’m Mark Slemons, a consultant, coach, and speaker dedicated to helping leaders like you transform and thrive.
I do this by sharing with you the insights I’ve gained over the last 30 years as a husband, father, leader, volunteer, and employee working for a multi-billion dollar international company. Sometimes humorous, serious or sad, we will use the past to create opportunities for a better future.
You’ll benefit from my leadership experience in IT and Marketing; I bring a unique perspective with a diversified background working internationally with customers all over the globe.
You need practical, useful leadership principles
And you need them NOW so they can be implemented quickly.
All leaders have a burning desire to improve their skills, refine their craft, and like a magnet, draw people to them who want to improve their own capability.
It’s critical that you improve your performance in the areas of communication, leadership, productivity, networking, sales and marketing so you can be at the top of your game.
As a learning leader, you want to pass on what you know to make others successful as well.
Where do I start? Not where you think!
You don’t need to learn a whole bunch of new stuff to be a better leader. You start with where you are!
It’s nice to think that if you just got a hold of the “Five Steps to Increasing Your Influence” or the “Three Ways to Become the Leader Everyone Follows” THEN you would be on your way. It doesn’t work that way. We are taught to believe that if we just had that one key, everything would work like it’s supposed to!
Maybe it comes from living in the age of powerful mobile phones, the Internet, and Alexa, right?! Everything at our fingertips…The answer to every question known to man…EXCEPT for the fact that man is unpredictable. When you take the same life-changing information and share it with five different people, you will NEVER get the same five responses.
People are unique and “one size DOESN’T fit all!” So, let’s agree that there is no magic bullet and we can all stop searching for it. There is, however, a wealth of experience obtained in our personal lives and in the lives of others from which we can draw. As humans, we can adapt and as leaders, we can adjust our style to rapidly changing conditions and produce effective results.
Your past prepared you for your future
I want to show you how to take your experiences (you know, the BEST teacher!) and look at them from a different perspective.
Sounds impossible, right? After all, you can’t imagine the list I have that disqualifies me from success! I’ve not only heard it, I’ve lived it.
Sometimes, having an external perspective offers insight we miss. We are too close to the situation. Think about how it feels when someone you know, like and trust offers a different view that validates you, encourages you, shows you how to take that experience and make it something beneficial for you and your team. That’s what I do!
Learn to draw the most out of yourself
Do you ever feel like you don’t get it? Maybe you don’t feel comfortable with the level of knowledge required to successfully perform in your current role. Taking hours, days or weeks for training isn’t an option. You are being asked to deliver results now. Your team was reduced but the workload wasn’t.
You feel inadequate, unprepared, isolated and afraid you will fail or disappoint yourself and those who you want to respect you. I understand and I’ve been there myself.
There’s so much more that you have to offer your team, your family, your co-workers and your company.
You can’t wait for others to bring you the answers
It’s not anyone’s responsibility but your own to get the training you require to advance in your career. If you need a mentor, then YOU have to go find him. If you need a coach, then YOU have to go find him.
Can you imagine going to a doctor who was never trained by someone in the medical field? That’s why they intern…for SEVERAL years! Book knowledge with lots of theory and no practice = DANGER!
What if you went to a hair salon where the stylist had studied all the latest trends, but never let anyone show him how to color hair or give a perm? It’s going to take a few months to recover!
You have to go find the one who has “been there, done that.”
The key to your success is learning from one who has been through the challenges you are experiencing.
You can find lots of books written by people who have theoretical knowledge. Until you have been “in the game” and dealt with low morale, ineffective processes, bad team chemistry, or a lack of vision, you only have theories.
This is what sets me apart: I’ve got almost 30 years of experience. I haven’t been sitting on the bench hoping to play. I’ve been in the game. I’ve seen what works…and what doesn’t. I’ve made my share of mistakes too – this isn’t about never messing up.
It’s all about taking the collective and applying it in a way that transforms. The objective is to leave different than when we arrived!
Let me show you how to refresh, reenergize, and renew your enthusiasm
I can take you from where you are to where you want to be: from being an under-equipped, ill-informed, disconnected leader to a competent, connected, fully equipped and capable leader working to live (not living to work) who is leaving a legacy of competency with your coworkers/employees/family.
I can give you the confidence you need to make the difficult decisions. I will help you obtain a fresh perspective. It’s critical for your role, your team, and your future!
